Ör: A: Adınız nedir? B: 'A' bana adımı sordu.
B: Ali, Veli vs. C: hmm...
Ör: A: Yarın buraya geleceksin. B: 'A' bana ertesi gün oraya gideceğimi söyledi.
B: ................. C: ..........................

He sait, "I'm hungry."
She sait, "I'm sorry," to him.
I told her a joke. (Ona bir fıkra anlattım.)
Aşağıdaki cmlede konuşan kişi, başka bir kişiye bir şey anlatmıştır. Her sözcüğü dolaylı nesnedir.
me her opinion. Bana fikrini
you a story. Sana bir öykü
She tolt him everything she know. Ona bildiği her şeyi anlattı.
Us the news Bize haberi
Them a joke Onlara bir fıkra
DÜZ CÜMLE
Direct Speech: He said, "I am hungry."
Reported Speech: He said (that) he was hungry.
Parantez içinde gösterilen that atılabilir.
Yukarıda açıklanan ifade değişikliklerine dikkat ederek aşağıdaki örnekleri inceleyiniz:
D: "I can't come here tomorrow," he said to me.
R: He told me (that) he couldn't go there the next day.
Bu örnekte, eğer sözkonusu yer değişmiyorsa, come fiili ve here yer zafında değişiklik ypamaya gerek yoktur. Said to me ifadesinin told me olarak değiştiğine dikkat ediniz.
D: "You don't want this," she told him.
R: She told him (that) he didn't want that.
Şahıs zamirlerinin değişmesine dikkat ediniz. Dolaylı söylenen cümlelerin üçüncü bir kişiye söylendiğini unutmayınız.
D: "We didn't watch the film yesterday," she said.
R: She said they hadn't watched the film the day before.
D: "I will see you tomorrow," she said to Rıfkı.
R: She told Rıfkı that she would see him the next day.
D: "We haven't been there before," he told me.
R: He told me that they hadn't been there before.
D: " don't know you," I said to her.
R: I told her that I didn't know her.
D: "I live on this island and I've lived here for 10 years."
R: He said he lived on that island and he had lived there for 10 years.
D: "you must study harder."
R: He told me that I had to study harder.
D: "Your sister should write us more often."
R: He told me that my sister should write them more often.
CEVABI EVET/HAYIR OLAN SORU CÜMLELERİ
Bu tip sorular daime o cümlenin tense yapısındaki yardımcı fiille sorulur.
Do you smoke? (Sigara içer misiniz?)
Bunun cevabı ya, "Yes, I do." ya da "No, I don't" olacaktır.
Dolaylı anlatım sırasında şu değişiklik olur:
"Do you smoke?"
"He asked me if I smoked."
Görüldüğü gibi, if/whether bağlaçlı bir isim cümleciği kullanılmaktadır. Soru cümleleri dolaylı söylenirken genellikle şu sözcükler/ifadeler kullanılır:
he asket
wanted to know if/whether I smoked.
wondered
inquired
